Terms of Service

Last updated: 5 September 2026

The rules for using FreeBacktest. Short, because the service is small and free. By using it, you agree to what is below.

The short version

  • Nothing here is real. No order you place ever reaches an exchange. No money moves, ever.
  • This is not financial advice. We are not licensed to give any.
  • A strategy that worked on old candles can still lose money on new ones.
  • There is a free plan you can use without paying. Paid plans are planned; the checkout is not open yet, so nothing can be charged today. If it opens, you are only charged if you explicitly choose one.
  • One small server, no uptime promise. It can go down or lose data.

01 What this service is

FreeBacktest replays real historical crypto price data in your browser, one candle at a time, and lets you place simulated orders against it. It is a practice and analysis tool. It exists so you can find out how a strategy would have behaved without putting money at risk.

These terms include the Refund and Cancellation Policy published at /refund. Where that page and this one disagree about refunds, cancellation or billing, that page wins.

FreeBacktest is operated as a sole proprietorship. When paid plans exist, the sale itself is made by a merchant of record who is named at checkout and on your card statement; your contract for using the service is with us.

02 Everything is simulated

No order placed in FreeBacktest is ever sent to an exchange, a broker, or anyone else. There is no connection to any trading account. We hold no funds, we transmit no money, and we are not a broker, an exchange, an investment firm or a money-services business.

The balance you start with is a number stored in your browser. Your positions, your profits and your losses are that same number changing. None of it is redeemable for anything.

You should also know how the simulation fills orders, because it is simpler than a real market:

  • Market orders fill at the price of the candle your cursor is on. Pending orders fill when a candle's range crosses their price.
  • There are no trading fees, no funding costs and no slippage. Profit and loss is the pure price difference multiplied by your position size.
  • There is no order book, so your order never queues behind anyone and never moves the price.
  • If a single candle would hit both your stop and your target, the stop is taken.

Real trading has all of the costs this simulation leaves out. Results here will be better than the same decisions would have been in a live market.

03 Not financial advice

Nothing on this site is a recommendation to buy or sell anything. We are not licensed financial advisers, brokers or analysts, and we do not know your circumstances. Any decision you make with real money is yours alone, and you are responsible for it — including checking whether it is legal and sensible where you live.

Trading cryptocurrency can lose you all of the money you put in.

04 Past results do not predict future results

A backtest is run with hindsight, on a market whose outcome is already known. It cannot tell you what a strategy will do next. It also cannot reproduce the parts of trading that matter most under pressure — hesitating, moving a stop, or sizing up after a loss — because in a replay you already know a candle exists before you decide.

We make no promise, of any kind, that a strategy which performed well here will perform well anywhere else.

05 The market data

The candles come from the public market data of Binance, OKX and Bybit. That data belongs to those exchanges; we collect, store and display it. We do not generate or invent any of it.

We do not guarantee that it is complete, gap-free, or free of errors — exchanges have outages, and so do we. How far back you can replay depends on the timeframe and the exchange, and it changes over time. Do not rely on this data for anything where accuracy carries a real cost. It is provided for practice and study.

06 Your account

You may use most of the product without an account. If you create one, use an email address or Google account you actually control, keep it to yourself, and do not share the account with other people.

You are responsible for what happens under your account. If you think someone else has access, sign out — that ends every session on every device — and email us.

07 Acceptable use

Do not:

  • bulk-download, scrape or re-publish the market data as a dataset, or resell access to it;
  • hammer the service with automated requests — there are per-address rate limits, and working around them is not allowed;
  • attempt to break into, overload, probe or reverse-engineer the service or the server it runs on;
  • put anything unlawful, abusive or infringing into a room, a drawing label or a room name;
  • impersonate someone else, or invite people into a room in order to harass them;
  • use the service for anything illegal where you are, or to present simulated results to other people as if they were real trading records.

We may suspend or remove an account that does these things. Given the size of the project, that decision will usually be made by one person reading the logs.

08 Rooms and shared content

Rooms are for sharing a chart with other people. Anything you do inside one is visible to everyone in it, and a room link works for anyone who has it — including after the room is closed. Do not put anything private in a room. You are responsible for who you invite. The Privacy Policy explains exactly what is shared.

09 Your content, and ours

Your drawings, your rooms and your notes stay yours. You give us permission to store and display them only as far as running the service requires — showing your drawings back to you, and showing room content to the people in that room. We claim no ownership and we will not publish your content elsewhere.

The site itself — its code, its design and its text — belongs to us. The market data belongs to the exchanges it came from.

10 Availability

FreeBacktest runs on a single small server maintained by one person. There is no uptime guarantee and no service level agreement. It can be slow, go offline, lose recent work, or be taken down for maintenance without notice. It has been down for days at a time before and may be again.

Database backups are taken daily and kept for a week, but they are insurance for the service, not a promise to you: we do not guarantee your drawings, rooms or history can be recovered. Anything you would be upset to lose should be saved somewhere you control.

We may change, remove or discontinue any feature at any time — including the whole service.

11 Free, and paid

FreeBacktest is free to use today. The public checkout is not open, so nothing can be charged: we do not collect card details, and nothing you use converts by itself into a paid subscription.

Paid plans are planned. When they exist, subscribing will be something you have to explicitly choose, and the Refund and Cancellation Policy will apply to every payment — it forms part of these terms.

The free plan is not a trial and does not expire. What it includes is written down rather than promised open-ended: full history on 3-day, weekly and monthly candles; one year on daily candles; and roughly the last 400 candles on each intraday timeframe — which is 17 days on hourly charts and 36 hours on 5-minute charts. Thirty backtests a day while signed in, three a day without an account. Simulated orders inside replay; drawings saved to your account; the trading journal and its CSV export; all sixteen timeframes, three exchanges, spot and futures, and every pair we carry; multi-chart layouts; and joining any room you are invited to. Today the free plan shows the full history on every timeframe and counts no backtests, and it will keep doing so until paid plans launch.

A backtest means one setup — a symbol, a timeframe and a starting date. Pausing a replay and picking it up later is free, and replaying the same setup again on the same day does not count a second time.

Two things will need a paid plan: creating a room, and choosing which timeframes a drawing appears on. Joining a room somebody else created stays free on every plan, including without an account, and any per-timeframe rule you have already saved keeps working whatever plan you are on.

Whatever plan you are on, nothing you have made is ever deleted. Your drawings, your rooms, your journal and your account stay exactly where they are, and settings you have already saved keep working. What a plan changes is how much history you can see and what you can create next — never what you already have.

12 No warranty, and limits on what we owe you

The service is provided as it is, with no warranty of any kind — not of accuracy, availability, fitness for a purpose, or freedom from errors.

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for trading losses, lost profits, lost data, lost time or business interruption arising from your use of the service. This is a free tool; it does not come with an insurance policy. Nothing here limits liability that cannot legally be limited.

13 Ending it

You can stop using the service at any time. To delete your account, email privacy@freebacktest.app from the address on the account — it is done by hand, and the Privacy Policy explains what is removed and what survives.

If you are on a paid plan, cancelling and refunds are covered by the Refund and Cancellation Policy: cancelling stops the next charge and leaves you the time you already paid for, and there is a 30-day money-back guarantee. Deleting your account is a separate thing from cancelling — you can do either without the other.

We may suspend or terminate an account that breaks these terms, or shut the service down entirely. We will give notice where we reasonably can.

14 Changes to these terms

If these terms change, the date at the top changes with them. Continuing to use the service after that means you accept the new version. Every published version of this page is archived and dated, and we will send you the one that was live on a date you name if you ask.
